Use custom favicon in Blogger

How to use Custom Favicon In Blogger

Using a custom favicon in Blogger is very easy; you don’t need to do any html editing. Favicon means a custom icon, which appears in the address bar of the browser. Generally Blogger uses its default orange favicon, however you can use your own. First you should have a icon file of (16*19), (32*32) or (48*48). Icon file means the extension of it should be .ico (not .png, .jpg etc). If you don’t have one see below to create one.

Create a icon file (.ico)

Step 1: Go to Favicon generator. Choose a picture file (.png, .jpg etc) stored in your computer. Select (32*32) check box(optional).

Create a icon file online

Step 2: Click on create icon button.

Step 3: Download the favicon.

Upload it to Blogger

I assume that you use the updated Blogger interface. To upload the favicon see the steps below.
Step 1: Log in to Blogger. Go to layout.
Step 2: Click  'Edit' on the Favicon widget, which is present on the top left corner.
Step 3: Now click 'Choose file' and 'Save'.

Open your blog and you can see the custom icon you have uploaded is showing up in the address-bar.

Map a Custom Sub-Domain in Blogger

In my previous post I had elaborately discussed on mapping a custom domain in Blogger. Now let's know
how to use a custom sub-domain in Blogger. I assume that you have already purchased a TLD (Top level domain), and mapped it to bloggger by setting preffered IP address. However setting up a sub-domain is easy as compared to set up a domain.
Step 1: To do this, go to your Domain provider's site and log in to your account. Select the domain from which you want to create a sub-domain. ( In my case it is askjet.org) [see fig 1]

BigRock
Fig 1
Step 2: Go to DNS management in your control panel. [see fig 2]

Step 3: Go to "CNAME" section and create a new record. In the name "Host Name" enter your desired sub-domain name. Put the value "ghs.google.com". Enter any value of TTL, preferably 86400. [see fig 3]

Step 4: Go to your Blogger dashboard-setting-basic. Click on 'Add a custom domain' then click on 'Switch to Advanced Settings'. Enter the full URL of your new address(eg. www.example.askjet.org). Your blogger blog will soon redirect your to your new address. It might take upto 1 day. So be patient and be geek.

How to use BigRock domain in Blogger

How to use BigRock domain in Blogger

To configure your Blogger blog with a custom domain is extremely easy. If you haven't purchased your domain, then I recommend you to buy it from BigRock rather than Godaddy, Because of some advantages which I am going to write later. Here I'll show you how to map a custom domain in Blogger. I assume that you have a Blogspot blog (or any) already. Now you want to map a custom domain, right!
Step 1: Log-in to your BigRock (or any domain provider eg. Godaddy) account.

Step 2: Click on manage orders and select your preferred domain, which you want to use in your blog. (see fig 1)

Fig 1

Step 3: Navigate to DNS Management and open it. (See fig 2)

Fig 2

Step 4: Go to "A" section. Create 4 "A" records with the following details. In name box leave it blank. Create 4 IP address as follows

  • 216.239.32.21
  • 216.239.34.21
  • 216.239.36.21
  • 216.239.38.21

Fig 3

Step 5: Now go to "CNAME" section and create a new record by filling up the form as follows. Put the Name=www, and Host= ghs.google.com

Now just wait 8-10 hour.

Go to your Blogger dashboard. Go to Setting-Basic-Blog address. Click on Add a Custom domain. Again click on 'Switch to Advanced Setting'. Here enter your full URL (with 'www', eg 'www.askjet.org'). Then select save and later tick mark on the "Redirect example.com to www.example.com".
Now you are done. Wait for 1-2 hours to make the changes take effect. If you have any problem then ask me. Ok!

How to extend trial period of Windows 7

Fig 1
It has been quite a time of Windows 7 launching date. But many of us still use Windows XP. However Windows 7 is more secure and beautiful than XP or Vista. When you install windows 7, you get 30 days trial period. After that your license will be deactivated and you can’t use it further. However you can extend the trial period to 4 months legally. To do this follow the following steps below. On the 30th day of trial period(last day of trial period) it shows an message “you have to activate windows today).
  1. GO to Start—Accessories—Command prompt. Run it with administrative privileges by right clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator.
  2. On the command prompt type “slmgr –rearm”. (Type ‘slmgr’, give a space and again type ‘-rearm’). [See Fig 2]
  3. An message will be displayed showing to Restart the Computer.

  4. Fig 2
  5. After the Restart you will see the trial period has been extended further 30 days. [See Fig 3]
Fig 3
You can repeat this process for maximum 3 times. That means 90 days(3*30 days). Then the total period is 120 days(30+90 days) means 4 months (120/30). However be careful not to execute the command before the last day of the trial period (before 30th day). This means you have to execute the process on the last day of trial period. If you enter it earlier, you get less time. {For ex: You have 15 days left and you have executed the command, then 30 days will be replaced with the remaining 15 days. Thus making 30 days not 45 days. So this makes no sense}. So by entering the command on the last day of trial period you can get exactly 120 days.
If you face any problem regarding this then leave a comment and I shall do my best to solve it.
Thanks for reading..
